Over a span of more than 11 years, Philips refrained from reporting significant consumer complaints about the safety of its continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) devices to the US Food and Drug Administration.[143] The use of dangerous foam in updated CPAP products was alleged to pose cancer and acute respiratory hazards for patients. In 2021, the company initiated a recall notification in the USA and a field safety notice internationally for these machines.
